One of the most important features of a summer camp can be the location. It may be important to consider proximity to the house if you are going to be dropping off and picking up your own child. However, if the summer camp provides roundtrip door-to-door transportation then the proximity to the home is not as important. Instead the location is important because of what it has to offer. Does the location have an indoor and outdoor area? Is there shade? Is there air conditioning? Is the location safe? What does the location offer?
A location where kids can run around outdoors is terrific, especially if there are shady spots to relax. An indoor location is great when the weather is rainy or when the temperatures get too high. An indoor location is ideal if there is air conditioning.
World of Discovery features a lush summer camp campground that has plenty of space to run around and plenty of shade. The indoor location also features an air conditioned gym so that campers can experience the best of both worlds!
Another important feature of a summer camp program is the summer camp staff. World of Discovery has several licensed principals on staff in directorial positions. In addition we also have many licensed teachers at the camp in Division Leader positions. Camp counselors are made up of college students and high school seniors with exceptional resumes. All summer camp staff members are subjected to comprehensive background checks. Directors and Division Leaders are trained in American Red Cross CPR and Emergency First Aid. Counselors are reminded that they are role models for the campers and that they are expected to behave in such a manner. Counselors are instructed to treat campers with respect and are trained to closely monitor situations that are likely to cause trouble. Counselors often praise campers with positive reinforcement and avoid giving negative attention to those who seek it.
